Busy Professional Part 2

Java Printing

Now let’s talk about meals… Breakfast
For the busy professional, eating and exercise often get pushed to the bottom of the priority list.
From the moment you get up, it tends to be ‘go, go, go’.
Getting up a little earlier to ensure you get a solid breakfast is often unimaginable (but mostly because you were up late or had poor sleep). As with any new project or focus at work, you will need to make some committed adjustments to your routines at home in order to make this a successful venture.

  • Get to sleep earlier
  • Wake up earlier
  • Eat each of your meals
  • Repeat

I mentioned it in part 1 – reduce your carbs and increase your protein. Here are some examples of Breakfast meals that are quick and easy:
In order to make them super quick, you need to utilize ‘left overs’-
Eggs and green beans
Eggs and broccoli
Eggs and zucchini
Pork chops and any left over veggie
or make this in advance and have these ‘muffins’ ready to go.

By taking a little extra time and preparing a little extra food, you set yourself up for success by having the tools available when you need it (and when you don’t have the time). Making sure you keep your energy levels consistent throughout the day by eating solid meals will help you in everything you do. Clearer mind for decisions, more energy for everything, better attitude, less stress, and better health.

If your ‘go-to’ is a bowl of cereal with a glass of orange juice, you are simply supplying your body with a big hit of SUGAR and preparing it for a day of ‘hunting’ for more. Be careful – it is sneaky. Sugar is in everything… check out this website to see some side by side comparisons of how much sugar is in the foods you may consider ‘healthy’.

Nutrition Conversation

This last Saturday I lead a Nutrition Conversation at Systematic CrossFit.
There was a nice turnout of people – some great conversations around Nutrition – and some excellent examples of how important food is for proper health.

I offer Coaching services focused on Nutrition. Usually the challenge for people to make the necessary changes have more to do with a lack of information and accountability rather than will power alone. There are so many mixed messages out there – how can one really know what path to follow.

I can help give direction, offer support, hold accountable, as well as assist you in making adjustments to ensure success.

Let me know if you are interested – just check out my website and shoot me an email.

Make 2014 your healthiest year yet.

Food and Emotions

images-2

The emotional aspect of food is largely under assessed. It’s easy to write about what you should eat and what you should avoid. Creating a ‘Plan’ can be fun and exciting – executing said  ‘Plan’ is another story.

Finding a Coach who can help you through this is critical. Taking small, consistent steps towards a Healthy Relationship with food is the priority. This is where some of the current diet trends miss the mark completely. 30 Day elimination diets are good for bringing awareness of how certain foods impact the body, but what do you do with that information after the 30 days? And what kind of stress/pressure/anxiety is brought up during those 30 days? Everyone reacts differently. In the end – you need to know what your goals are and why you are choosing the path you are on.

We off support for clients who need help with the emotional side of their diet. If you suspect that you have triggers that lead to over eating or poor food choices, let’s chat. Together, we can help create a plan that steers you in the right direction for Optimal Health. Everyone’s needs are different. We can help you uncover what your needs are… you may be surprised on what the ACTUAL root cause is.

Services… get healthier

We are heading into that time of year where people tend to indulge on all of the super tasty (and horribly bad) foods in MASSIVE portions. Then, we finish out the year with resolutions on how to get ‘Healthier’. Often, these resolutions fade away quicker than they appeared, only to start the cycle all over again.

If any of this sounds familiar, then do something about it. Buck the trend. Reverse the effects. Find the balance between having an enjoyable life AND being healthy (they can go hand in hand, believe it or not :)).

I am not advocating a diet without great tasting foods.

I am not expecting you to count your calories.

I am not suggesting that you ‘suffer’ your way to health.

It is hard to give 1 direction on what to do – everyone requires different attention and different details/tweaks. The Paleo Diet is very good – it addresses 99% of everything one would need to get on track to ideal health. Most people need help and guidance through this change. Many people need help and suggestions on how to adjust their food choices while on the road, working, traveling, odd schedules, busy lives, etc… This is where I come in.

I have worked with all sorts of clients and have helped them adjust their diets to gain the results they need to get healthier. The priority is TRUE HEALTH – not the number on the scale. The aesthetics  piece will fall into place over time and as the body becomes healthier. There is a lot to it…

Not only do I work with you on Food Choices, but I work with you on the emotional attachment that comes with Food Choices – the addictions and cravings – the guilt and negative associations. Learn how to take control over your food and food choices.

If you want more details or have any questions – please feel free to contact me.

Save your New Year’s Resolution for something more exciting like ‘TRAVEL MORE’ rather than ‘Lose Weight’.

Don’t wait for Jan 1st…

Have you been wanting to change your diet?
Are you lost on how to start?
Do you have that feeling that something is just not working right?

Don’t wait for January 1st to commit to a new diet – let’s prepare NOW.
Here is what I am offering, effective November 1st I will lead a group of people (maximum 10 people) for 21 days. During this time, I will work with you to clean up your diet and help you start your improved lifestyle tailored to your goals. (weight loss, improved health, performance, etc)

In the 21 days that we are working together, you will be responsible for a Daily Food Log that I will have access to. I will leave comments and recommendations throughout the week to support your progress.

Each week, we will schedule a 15 min phone consultation to discuss progress and plans for the upcoming week.

Throughout the 21 days, I will send you articles to read – this ‘homework’ will help explain the ‘why’s’ behind why your food choices and lifestyle changes are so important.

Now, because I am looking for serious people only, this program will be limited to 10 people and will cost $50 per person.

What you can expect:
Better Sleep
Quicker Recovery
Improved Performance
Reduced (potentially eliminated) Allergy symptoms
Reduced (potentially eliminated) medicinal requirments
and so much more…

Watch Jeffrey Smith’s Groundbreaking Movie Genetic Roulette

Genetic Roulette—The Gamble of Our Lives has audiences rushing home to clear out their cupboards of dangerous genetically modified (GM) foods. The evidence presented in the film makes the best case yet for why genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are linked to disorders such as allergies, inflammatory bowel disease, infertility, autism, and cancer, to name a few. One health practitioner, Mary Tobin, L.Ac., said the film “provides abundant evidence that eating a GMO-free diet is the single most important change Americans can make for their health.”

That evidence not only includes doctors and patients testimonials, but also veterinarians and farmers who describe dramatic health improvements in animals that switched to non-GMO feed. The categories of diseases that improve in humans and animals are the ones found in lab animals fed GMOs. And these are many of the same categories, e.g. immune, reproductive, and gastrointestinal disorders that have been on the rise in the US population since GMOs were introduced.

Exposing the Dark Side

This 85 minute documentary reveals, what author John Robbins calls, “the bullying and deceit of the biotech industry,”— including manipulation of research, attacks on independent scientists and their findings, and infiltration and control of government regulators.

The film also reveals for the first time to horrific impact among workers on a South Africa farm, who were consuming a higher amount of GMO corn than probably any other group in the world.

Upbeat, Empowering and World Changing

Although this film’s eye-opening evidence in the film is sometimes shocking, it is by no means a downer. According to Robbins, it “shines a bright light of hope that we can reclaim our health and our food systems.” Smith explains that as little as 5% of the US population switching to non-GMO foods should deliver a tipping point, inspiring food companies to kick out GM ingredients. It was such a consumer rejection that already kicked GMOs out of Europe.

The film is being released right in the throes of the California campaign for Prop 37. If it passes in November, food companies will have to label products made with GM ingredients (like they do in nearly 50 other countries). Not only will this make it far easier for people to buy healthier non-GMO choices, the expected migration away from labeled GM products will probably accelerate the tipping point.

Farm to Table – illegal?

I just followed a blog article from Robb Wolf (delivered to my email) over to Amber’s blog… you know how it goes.

It was shocking – I am putting the video here (see below).

If you want to read Robb’s article – follow it here.

For Amber’s blog – follow it here or from within Robb’s.

This quote from Amber’s blog hits home:

There’s something very broken about a system that calls genetically modified organisms, high fructose corn syrup, chemical additives, and food dyes safe, but considers farm fresh eggs, grandma’s fruit preserves, and fresh raw milk a criminal health hazard.
